I will discuss the different methods, when to use them, and how to use them to turn off the ring camera.
Let’s get started!
Can You Even Turn Off A Ring Camera?
The first question you may have is whether it is possible to turn off the ring camera. Ring cameras don’t require an in-app switch or a dedicated button to turn them off.
However, there are several ways to disable some Ring Camera features. You can do this physically or via the app.
Specifically, you can turn off your Ring camera by stopping recording or unplugging it. If you need to start recording, you can reset the feature to make it work again.
Now let’s look at all the ways to temporarily turn off a Ring camera.
5 Ways To Turn Off A Ring Camera Temporarily
Method #1: Disarmed or Home Mode
The Ring app offers different control modes. You can use any of them or disable them depending on your situation. You get 3 mods:
Disarmed mode You can disable motion detection for all internal and external Ring cameras. You can move freely inside and outside without activating them. This mode allows flexible configuration of individual cameras.
Home Mode You can activate your camera while wandering randomly. Like the disable mode, it can be set individually for each device.
To configure Modes,
Method #2: Turn Off Motion Detection
Most modern Ring cameras have advanced motion detection capabilities that can distinguish between animals, people, and objects.
When you buy and set up your Ring video doorbell for the first time, this option is turned on by default.
To turn off motion detection,
If disabled, you will lose features such as customizable motion zones, recording trimming, and detection accuracy.
Method #3: Disconnect the Camera From the Internet/Wi-Fi
Another option is to turn off your Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. Camera recording, motion detection, and more. The camera is virtually unusable without this connection.
Without an internet connection, you can’t receive notifications or access smart features like Alexa. You can turn off the router to disconnect the camera. Or you can do this through the Ring app.
Method #4: Switch off the Main Power
Some older Ring camera models, such as B. Spotlight Cam Plus (add-on) and Floodlight Cam Wired Plus are wired or require a wired connection. They run on electricity from an outlet.
You can simply cut off the power supply when using such cameras. The easiest way to do this is to turn off the power button. Then you can remove the plug.
It’s good practice not to unplug the camera when the power is on. Learn more about what happens if you unplug a security camera.
Method #5: Remove the Batteries
Some Rings devices (Stick Up Cam and Spotlight Cam) support removable batteries. In fact, you have to remove the battery to charge it.
If the camera does not have backup power, the camera will stop working as soon as the battery is removed.
If your camera does not support removable batteries, this method is not suitable. Do not attempt to remove the battery if you cannot remove it. This will void your device warranty.
Method #6: Use a Cam Cover
This is the last resort if none of the above methods work. Technically, this is not how you would operate the ring camera. It’s just a way to hide the area covered by the camera. Video cameras are not captured.
If you want to temporarily disable your camera, Ring’s Privacy Kit can come in handy. Attach the cover to your embedded camera and block the view when you don’t want to capture it. However, the microphone will still work.
You also get a power adapter with an on/off switch which can be helpful for turning your camera on and off.
Is Turning off the Wi-Fi Going to Turn off the Ring Cameras?
Yes. Turning off Wi-Fi also turns off Ring Camera. This is especially true when the camera is fully Wi-Fi-connected.
For example, Ring Floodlight Cam Pro, Ring Doorbell Pro, and Pro support 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi. Floodlight Cam Plus and Spotlight Cam support 2.4 GHz.
If your Ring Camera supports other internet sources such as mobile hotspot or cellular data connection, disabling Wi-Fi will not affect it. Make sure you set the backup schedule so that your camera switches to it when there is no Wi-Fi.
If you use Wi-Fi frequently, consider subscribing to Ring Protect Pro.
